Stop guessing. Understand the difference between Performing an Action and Creating a Result. Deja de adivinar. Entiende la diferencia entre Realizar una Acción y Crear un Resultado.

DO (Action/Work)

"I DO my homework."

Existing task. No physical object created.

Hago mis deberes (Tarea existente).

MAKE (Creation/Result)

"I MAKE a cake."

New object/result created from ingredients.

Hago un pastel (Creo algo nuevo).
Phase 1

The Logic of DO

Use DO for **actions, obligations, and repetitive tasks**. Usa DO para acciones, obligaciones y tareas repetitivas.

Work & Jobs

  • Do work / a job Hacer trabajo
  • Do business Hacer negocios
  • Do homework Hacer deberes
  • Do the housework Hacer tareas domésticas

Non-Specific

  • Do something / anything Hacer algo
  • Do nothing No hacer nada
  • Do everything Hacer todo
  • What are you doing? ¿Qué haces?

Obvious Actions

Replaces verbs like wash, clean, brush...

  • Do the dishes (wash) Lavar los platos
  • Do the laundry (wash) Hacer la colada
  • Do your hair (style) Peinarse / Arreglarse el pelo
  • Do your nails (paint) Hacerse las uñas

Key Expressions:

"Do your best" (Hacer lo mejor posible) & "Do me a favor" (Hacerme un favor).

The "Bed" Exception:

We say "Make the bed" (Arrange it), even though it's a chore.

Decimos "Make the bed" (Hacer la cama), aunque sea una tarea doméstica.
