Three facts to get right before you plan
The official Spanish qualification is Técnico Superior en Vitivinicultura, a Higher VET programme in the Food Industries professional family.
Under the new FP system, company-based learning is integrated into the curriculum. The old standalone FCT model remains relevant only to students completing an earlier plan.
For higher-education mobility, your institution must hold the ECHE and participate through the relevant project or consortium. Access also depends on its selection call and an approved learning agreement.

Pour Your Future: from vine to global career
What the qualification really offers —and what Erasmus+ does not guarantee.
Imagine the first morning of the harvest. Grapes are arriving, laboratory results are changing, tanks must be allocated and every decision has consequences for quality. The wine industry needs more than enthusiasm: it needs technicians who can connect the vineyard, the cellar, the laboratory, food safety, logistics and the market.
Spain’s official Técnico Superior en Vitivinicultura is a Higher VET qualification in the Food Industries professional family. It lasts 2,000 hours. Students learn to programme and control grape production; supervise winemaking, stabilisation and ageing; manage equipment; apply quality, food-safety and environmental procedures; carry out sensory analysis; and support the commercialisation of wine and grape-derived products.
The programme is not simply a long tasting course. A professional may need to interpret an analysis, detect a production risk, check traceability, organise a bottling line or explain why a batch has been placed on hold. Useful English therefore includes process verbs, measurements, safety language, tasting descriptors, export terminology and the ability to write a concise technical report.
Company-based learning is also central. In Spain’s new FP system, a company-training phase is integrated into the curriculum; official guidance states that it normally represents at least 25% of the programme for the relevant Grade D offers. Students completing an earlier curriculum may still encounter the name FCT. The exact calendar, learning outcomes and partner companies are organised by the education authority and the centre, so a placement should never be treated as an informal job.
Can this training take place abroad? Potentially, yes. Erasmus+ supports higher-education traineeships lasting from 2 to 12 months, but that range is not a promise that every student will receive a place of any chosen length. The learner must be enrolled at a participating higher-education institution holding the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), candidates must follow its selection process, and the traineeship must be relevant to their learning. A grant is a contribution towards costs; the exact amount and conditions are published by the responsible institution or national agency.
For a Vitiviniculture student, a well-designed mobility could provide exposure to a different climate, grape variety, production method or business culture. France, Italy and Portugal are logical areas to investigate, but the best destination is not automatically the most famous one. A smaller host with a clear training plan, meaningful supervision and relevant tasks may offer more learning than a prestigious name with limited trainee involvement.
Graduates can work across grape production, cellar operations, stabilisation, bottling, distillation, must concentration, vinegar production, laboratory analysis, sensory analysis, quality control, logistics, sales and wine tourism. The strongest career profile combines technical judgement, evidence of workplace learning, responsible communication and functional English. Your goal is not merely to know wine vocabulary; it is to use English to make safer decisions, ask better questions and contribute professionally from day one.
