⚠️ Reality check: FP title ≠ automatic EASA licence
Your Higher VET qualification is relevant training for the corresponding Part‑66 category — for example B1.1, B1.3 or B2 — but AESA explicitly states that relevant FP training does not remove the requirement to pass the applicable Part‑66 basic-module examinations. Licence issuance also involves the required experience.

From Spanish FP to an MRO hangar
A realistic route — without the marketing shortcuts.
Aircraft maintenance is a field in which precision is not a decorative skill: it is part of safety. A Higher VET student may begin by learning how to read a maintenance manual, identify the correct tooling and understand why every completed task must be documented. In a real hangar, a technician cannot simply say that a component “looks fine”. The work must follow approved data, procedures and limits.
Spain currently offers several specialised Higher VET routes in aircraft maintenance. Students interested in turbine aeroplanes work with structures, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, landing gear and flight controls. Those choosing avionics concentrate more heavily on wiring, electrical power, communication, navigation, instruments and automatic flight. Helicopter students add the distinctive world of rotors, transmissions and turbine-powered rotary-wing systems.
The company-training phase is where vocabulary becomes behaviour. A trainee may be asked to inspect an area for foreign object damage, confirm that a circuit is isolated, retrieve a task card, prepare tools, report a defect or assist with the removal and installation of a component. The key is not to pretend to know more than you do. In aviation, asking a precise question is safer than making a confident guess.
There are genuine training links between Spanish centres and industry. Iberia Maintenance has repeatedly hosted large cohorts of VET trainees at La Muñoza in Madrid, including students from aeromechanics and avionics. The company reported more than 130 VET trainees starting placements in the 2025/26 cycle and said that more than 600 students had taken part in its internship programmes since 2018. In the Balearic Islands, an official agreement links IES Son Pacs with Air Europa for the turbine-aircraft aeromechanics programme, with the current extension running to August 2028.
Another route is international mobility. Erasmus+ supports traineeships abroad for students in short-cycle higher education when the sending institution participates through the appropriate Erasmus framework. The placement must be relevant to the qualification. For an aircraft-maintenance student, that means the best destination is not simply “a company abroad”, but a workplace where the learning agreement can involve authentic technical tasks, supervision, safety procedures and meaningful communication in English or another working language.
Finally, students should understand the relationship between vocational education and licensing. A Spanish Higher VET qualification can count as relevant training for a Part‑66 category, but it is not an automatic licence. A serious career plan therefore has four connected parts: technical competence, documented experience, regulatory knowledge and professional English. That combination makes you far more hangar-ready than memorising vocabulary in isolation.

Where do students actually train?
Placement agreements change by centre and academic year, so avoid lists that imply every student can choose any company. These are documented, traceable examples.
🔧 Iberia Maintenance · Madrid
In December 2025 Iberia reported more than 130 VET students beginning placements at La Muñoza, including aeromechanics and avionics. Partner centres named by Iberia include CIFP Profesor Raúl Vázquez and IES Barajas. Since 2018, Iberia says more than 600 students have joined its internship programmes.

The Balearic Government maintains an official collaboration agreement with Air Europa Líneas Aéreas for the Higher VET turbine-aircraft aeromechanics programme at IES Son Pacs. The published extension runs until 31 August 2028.

A December 2025 BOE agreement formalises collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and Castilla-La Mancha for aeronautical training at CIFP Aguas Nuevas and the Maestranza Aérea de Albacete, including company-equivalent training periods for students.

Can a Higher VET aviation student do a placement abroad?
Yes — when your centre has the appropriate Erasmus framework, funding/selection and a suitable host organisation. Erasmus+ supports traineeships abroad for students in short-cycle higher education. The official programme page states that supported traineeships can normally last from 2 to 12 months.

Do not start with “Which country do I want?”. Start with which learning outcomes you need. Then work with your Erasmus coordinator to identify an eligible company or maintenance organisation, confirm supervision and safety conditions, agree the learning programme, and check insurance and recognition. Company availability changes every year, so no destination should be presented as guaranteed.
