🔄 Five real sentence transformations

Rewrite each pair without changing its meaning. Reveal a model answer only after attempting it. Equivalent correct alternatives may exist.

1. Use DESPITE: Although it was expensive, we bought the equipment.

Model: Despite its high price, we bought the equipment.

Rule: despite + noun phrase.

2. Use ALTHOUGH: Despite the rain, the concert continued.

Model: Although it was raining, the concert continued.

Rule: although + subject + verb.

3. Use SO THAT: She left early to catch the first train.

Model: She left early so that she could catch the first train.

Rule: so that + subject + modal/verb.

4. Use SUCH...THAT: The exam was so difficult that many students struggled.

Model: It was such a difficult exam that many students struggled.

Rule: such + a/an + adjective + singular noun + that.

5. Use BECAUSE OF: The match was postponed because the pitch was flooded.

Model: The match was postponed because of the flooded pitch.

Rule: because of + noun phrase.
