Time Clauses

When talking about the future, time words act like a shield. They block "WILL". You must use the Present to talk about the Future. Al hablar del futuro, las palabras de tiempo actúan como un escudo. Bloquean "WILL". Debes usar el Presente para hablar del Futuro.

Start Game (30 Qs)

Time Zone (No Will)

"When I arrive..."

Cuando llegue... (Presente con valor de futuro).

Future Zone (Will OK)

"...I will call you."

...te llamaré.

Phase 1

The Golden Rule

After a time connector, the word WILL is invisible. It disappears. Después de un conector temporal, la palabra WILL es invisible. Desaparece.

The "Time" Guards

These words activate the barrier:

WHEN AS SOON AS BEFORE AFTER UNTIL WHILE

"As soon as I see him..."

En cuanto le vea... (NO 'will see').

"Wait here until I come back."

Espera aquí hasta que vuelva. (NO 'will come').

"Before we leave, we must clean up."

Antes de que nos vayamos...

"I will call you when I get home."

Te llamaré cuando llegue a casa.

The Trap

Fatal Error

"When I will arrive..."

NUNCA uses WILL después de When/If/Until.

Correct Logic

"When I arrive (Present), I will call (Future)."

Phase 2

The Perfect Sequence

Use Present Perfect to emphasize that one action is totally finished before the next starts. Usa el Presente Perfecto para enfatizar que una acción ha terminado totalmente antes de la siguiente.

Simple (Standard)

"After I finish, I will go."

Después de terminar, iré.

Perfect (Emphasis)

"After I HAVE FINISHED, I will go."

Después de que HAYA terminado... (Completado al 100%).

"When we HAVE EATEN, we will leave."

Cuando hayamos comido...

"Once I HAVE SAVED enough, I will buy it."

Una vez que haya ahorrado lo suficiente...

"As soon as she HAS ARRIVED, we can start."

Tan pronto como ella haya llegado...

Past Narratives

In the past, we use sequences. Watch out for the order of events! En el pasado, usamos secuencias. ¡Cuidado con el orden de los eventos!

Sequence (Simple)

One thing happened after another.

"When I arrived, he left."

1. I arrived -> 2. He left.

Cuando llegué, él se fue (después).

"When she called, I answered."

1. Call -> 2. Answer.

Cuando ella llamó, contesté.

Already Done (Perfect)

It happened BEFORE the time clause.

"When I arrived, he HAD LEFT."

1. He left -> 2. I arrived.

Cuando llegué, él (ya) se había ido.

"By the time we got there, the movie HAD STARTED."

Para cuando llegamos, la peli había empezado.
