The Logic of
So & Such
Don't guess. Use logic. One points to a quality, the other wraps a thing. No adivines. Usa la lógica. Uno señala una cualidad, el otro envuelve una cosa.
The Core Rule
Look at the END of the phrase. Is there a noun? Mira al FINAL de la frase. ¿Hay un sustantivo?
SO
Use it with Adjectives or Adverbs alone.
SUCH
Use it when there is a Noun (Thing/Person) involved.
The Quantifiers
| Use SO with... | Use SUCH with... |
|---|---|
| So many / So few | Such a lot of |
| So much / So little | Such a lot of |
Exception: Before "Much, Many, Little, Few", always use SO. Excepción: Delante de Much/Many/Little/Few, usa siempre SO.
The Result (That...)
We use THAT to connect the cause and the result.
SO ... THAT
"It was so cold that the water froze."
SUCH ... THAT
"It was such a cold day that we stayed home."
