Every night, Mary cleans the commercial offices from 11 PM to 7 AM, a monotonous routine that funds her crucial academic endeavor. Her goal is daunting: passing the Advanced Vocational Training entrance exam to become a nurse. Currently, she is pursuing this educational objective while simultaneously managing her demanding work schedule and caring for her three children. This relentless pursuit has been ongoing; she has always managed her finances since her husband left, instilling a sense of disciplined resourcefulness. For nine months, Mary has been studying relentlessly for the pivotal exam, sacrificing every leisure moment.

The stress is immense. Yesterday, she felt utterly drained after a double shift, a common occurrence. Her first vital problem is sleep: while she was trying to concentrate at 3 AM, her son called her from home with an urgent math question, interrupting her already scarce study time. She was desperate because she had been dealing with a severe lack of sleep for weeks, severely impacting her focus. Her second problem involves her supervisor: the supervisor had already left the building before Mary noticed the error in her schedule, meaning an extra hour of work unpaid.

Mary is realistic about her life, but not hopeless. She would feel less overwhelmed if her current cleaning job were less physically demanding, but she understands the necessity. Soon, "I will secure a better future for my children," she promises herself, clinging to that motivation. If she had not persevered during those challenging nights, she would have quit the course long ago. The landlord would have been demanding the rent every week if Mary had not been so disciplined with her payments.

After nine arduous months, the dedication bore fruit. By the time her exam day arrived, she will have reviewed every single unit, proving her commitment. This time next year, she will be earning a decent salary as a qualified nursing assistant. When she finally starts her training, she will have been balancing work, family, and studies for almost a year. Mary, with her unwavering tenacity, succeeded.

English tenses: tiempos verbales en inglés. A tasty recipe to digest them

Today I have been so lucky! My husband has cooked a delicious, beautiful stew which we have eaten today for lunch. Well, in fact, it was cooked yesterday and the ingredients were bought two days ago. My husband enjoys cooking, and has been cooking for more than 10 years now. Recently, he has started a cooking course in the evenings and now we enjoy eating much more. I remember when he started to cook 10 years ago! He was a disaster, a chaos, and most meals were overcooked or even burnt. Now, I am falling asleep, because this stew, which has red sausage, black pudding, pork, beans, potatoes, will make anybody feel drowsy. However, If I had known how tasty it was, I would have eaten it yesterday instead of today. Would you like to try it? Now I am sure that by the end of this week I will have put on 3 kilos at least!

Foto @mmolpor

For tomorrow, he has already prepared some 'migas', with lots of pork pieces, some garlic, some red sausage, a little bit of black pudding, some green and red pepper, a pinch of salt and some water. We will eat them tomorrow, because they need to rest for a while. He has been cooking them for two hours, very slowly, patiently. He would have liked to eat them today as well, but I thought that if we had eaten both the stew and the migas, we would have exploded.

https://diagonalenglish.com/lista-verbos-irregulares-ingles/

Saludos, familia.
