Present Simple vs. Continuous
What do you do every day? And what are you doing NOW?
Buenas tardes, estimados alumnos.
La Idea Clave
Piensa en el Present Simple como tu "Yo Rutinario": cosas que haces siempre, verdades universales o tu horario aburrido (I work, I eat). En cambio, el Present Continuous es tu "Yo de Ahora Mismo": lo que está ocurriendo justo en este segundo o una situación temporal (I am dancing, It is raining).
¿Rutina? Simple. ¿Ahora mismo? ¡Ponle ING!
Siempre / Normalmente (Simple)
Ahora (Continuous)
Cada día (Simple)
En este momento (Continuous)
Los lunes (Simple)
¡Mira! (Continuous)
Imagine a spy. His cover is what he does usually (Routine). His mission is what he is doing right now (Action).
James works in a bank. (Normal life)
But right now, he is jumping from a plane. (Mission)
Verb Classification: Action vs. Stative
ACTION Verbs
Verbos de movimiento o acciones físicas. ¡Sí se mueven!
ACEPTE -ING
"I am cooking"
STATIVE Verbs
Verbos de sentimiento, pensamiento o posesión. (Cerebro y Corazón)
NO -ING (Usually)
"I understand" (Not "I am understanding")
Veamos la diferencia en contexto:
-
Example 1: Clothes
'I usually wear jeans, but today I am wearing a dress.'
Normalmente llevo vaqueros, pero hoy llevo puesto un vestido.
-
Example 2: The Weather
'It rarely rains here in summer, but look! It is raining now!'
Rara vez llueve aquí en verano, ¡pero mira! ¡Está lloviendo ahora!
-
Example 3: Eating Habits
'My brother eats cereal every morning, but at the moment he is eating toast.'
Mi hermano come cereales cada mañana, pero en este momento está comiendo tostadas.
