⏳ PRESENT TENSES (Simple, Continuous, Perfects)
1. Present Simple

Use: Rutinas, verdades universales, horarios fijos (timetable future).

Signal Words: Always, usually, every day, on Mondays.

"Water boils at 100 degrees."El agua hierve a 100 grados. (Hecho)
"She works in a bank."Ella trabaja en un banco. (Rutina)
"The train leaves at 9."El tren sale a las 9. (Horario)

2. Present Continuous

Use: Acciones AHORA, tendencias, planes futuros fijos (citas).

Signal Words: Now, at the moment, look!, tonight.

"I am eating right now."Estoy comiendo ahora mismo.
"She is studying hard these days."Ella está estudiando mucho estos días.
"I am seeing the doctor tomorrow."Veo al médico mañana (Cita).

3. Present Perfect Simple

Use: Pasado reciente, experiencia de vida (sin fecha), resultado presente.

"I have lost my keys."He perdido mis llaves (no las tengo).
"She has visited Paris twice."Ha visitado París dos veces (Experiencia).
"We have lived here since 2010."Vivimos aquí desde 2010.

4. Present Perfect Continuous

Use: Énfasis en la duración o acción reciente con efecto físico visible.

"I have been running."He estado corriendo (estoy sudado).
"It has been raining all day."Ha estado lloviendo todo el día.
"How long have you been waiting?"¿Cuánto tiempo llevas esperando?

1. Past Simple

Use: Acción terminada en fecha específica.

"I watched TV yesterday."Ayer vi la tele.
"She left 5 minutes ago."Se fue hace 5 minutos.
"We went to Spain in 2019."Fuimos a España en 2019.

2. Past Continuous

Use: Acción larga en progreso interrumpida por una corta.

"I was sleeping at 10 PM."Estaba durmiendo a las 10.
"While I was cooking, he arrived."Mientras cocinaba, él llegó.
"It was raining when I woke up."Estaba lloviendo cuando me desperté.

3. Past Perfect Simple

Use: El "pasado del pasado".

"When I arrived, the train had left."Cuando llegué, el tren se había ido.
"She had already eaten."Ella ya había comido.
"I realized I had lost my wallet."Me di cuenta de que había perdido mi cartera.

4. Past Perfect Continuous

Use: Duración anterior a otro momento pasado.

"He was tired because he had been working."Estaba cansado porque había estado trabajando.
"It had been raining for hours."Había estado lloviendo durante horas.
"They had been waiting since noon."Habían estado esperando desde el mediodía.

🚀 FUTURE TENSES (Will, Going to, Continuous, Perfect)
1. Future Simple (Will)

Use: Opiniones, decisiones al instante, promesas.

"I think it will rain."Creo que lloverá.
"I will help you."Te ayudaré (Decisión ahora).
"I will have the salad."Tomaré la ensalada (Pidiendo comida).

2. Be Going To

Use: Planes, intenciones, evidencia visual.

"I am going to buy a car."Voy a comprar un coche (Plan).
"Look at the clouds, it is going to rain."Mira las nubes, va a llover (Evidencia).

3. Future Continuous

Use: Acción en progreso en el futuro.

"At 8 PM, I will be sleeping."A las 8 estaré durmiendo.
"We will be flying to London."Estaremos volando a Londres.
"People will be working more from home."La gente estará trabajando más desde casa.

4. Future Perfect

Use: Terminado ANTES de un límite.

"We will have stopped pollution."Habremos detenido la contaminación.
"I will have finished by 5 PM."Habré terminado para las 5.

Zero Conditional (Facts)

Structure: If + Present, Present.

"If you heat ice, it melts." (Siempre es verdad).

First Conditional (Possibility)

Structure: If + Present, Will + Verb.

"If it rains, I will stay home." (Futuro probable).

Second Conditional (Hypothesis)

Structure: If + Past Simple, Would + Verb.

"If I were rich, I would travel." (Imaginario en presente).

Third Conditional (Regret)

Structure: If + Past Perfect, Would have + V3.

"If I had studied, I would have passed." (Pasado imposible).

I WISH / IF ONLY

+ Past Simple: Deseo de cambiar el presente. "I wish I knew the answer."

+ Past Perfect: Arrepentimiento pasado. "I wish I had gone."

+ Would: Queja sobre otro. "I wish you would stop."

Past Habits, Agreement & Contrast

Logic of Habits & Agreement
  • Used to: Past states & habits (Not anymore).
  • Would: Past habits (Action verbs only). No states.
  • Be/Get used to: Accustomed to (followed by -ing).
  • So do I / Neither do I: Mirror the auxiliary verb.
