      The Logic of
      Result

Master the connectors that link a cause to its consequence. Without them, your writing is just a list of facts.

      Domino Logic

      Cause: "I didn't study."

      AS A RESULT, I FAILED

      Phase 01

      Everyday Result

Simple ways to connect ideas in spoken English or casual writing.

      SO...

The most common connector. Always after a comma.

"It was raining, so we stayed home."

"He was late, so he missed the bus."

      "I'm hungry, so let's eat."

"She's sick, so she can't come."

"They won, so they are happy."

      THAT'S WHY...

Emphasizes the reason. Literally: "That is the reason why".

"He lied to me. That's why I'm angry."

"The car broke down. That's why we are late."

"I love art. That's why I visit museums."

      "It's expensive. That's why I didn't buy it."

"You work hard. That's why you succeed."

      Phase 02

      Formal Writing Force

Connectors that give your essays authority and flow.

      THEREFORE

Extremely formal. Used to show logical deduction.

      "I think; therefore, I am."

"Profits fell. Therefore, we must cut costs."

"He is the heir; therefore, he will rule."

"It was illegal. Therefore, it was canceled."

"The facts are clear. Therefore, he is guilty."

      AS A RESULT

The perfect link for direct cause-effect relationships.

"He was ill. As a result, he stayed in bed."

"Prices rose. As a result, sales dropped."

"I lost my keys. As a result, I was locked out."

"It snowed. As a result, schools closed."

"They argued. As a result, they broke up."

      CONSEQUENTLY

Shows an inevitable consequence of an action.

"He failed the test. Consequently, he repeated."

"Oil leaked. Consequently, the engine died."

"She won. Consequently, she got a medal."

"Traffic was heavy. Consequently, I was late."

"The law changed. Consequently, we must adapt."

      Phase 03

      The Intensive Push

When something is so extreme that a result happens automatically.

      SO + ADJ + THAT

      The result of an adjective.

"He was so tired that he fell asleep."

"The book was so good that I read it twice."

"I was so happy that I cried."

"The music was so loud that my head hurt."

"She is so fast that nobody wins her."

      SUCH + NOUN + THAT

The result of a quality + noun.

"It was such a cold day that I stayed in."

"He is such a nice man that everyone loves him."

"It was such a big cake that we couldn't eat it."

"She has such a loud voice that I hear her."

"It was such a mess that I left."
